If you’ve noticed some new lights twinkling along the Abu Dhabi skyline that is because there is an extra 4,500 lights getting switched on at night.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi has recently completed attaching 4,500 tube lights to the museum’s iconic dome.

So if you find yourself driving past the museum on Saadiyat Island in the evening, you’ll be able to glimpse the roof reflected along the water. And we will say it’s pretty spectacular.

The roof, which is one of the museum’s main features, features eight separate layers of cladding made from 7,850 star-shaped pieces of aluminium and stainless steel. Inspired by interlaced palm leaves, the geometric design was repeated in various sizes and angles in each layer, causing a ‘rain of light’ effect in the interior.

“We are pleased to announce the completion of this milestone in time to welcome and celebrate the Holy month of Ramadan,” added HE Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Board at TDIC. “This achievement also offers members of the public an opportunity to witness the great strides taken in the museum’s construction and observe the dome’s intricate cladding pattern, giving them a hint of the wonder they will experience once Louvre Abu Dhabi is officially opened.”
