Abu Dhabi gets a load more women-only designated parking spots – and there’s big fines for gents who park in them

A few months back, What’s On revealed that Al Wahda Mall had introduced pink ladies-only parking areas. Now, the capital has introduced another 182 pink parking spots all over the city.

And there’s also bad news for any gents thinking of using one of these new pink spots. If a Mawaqif traffic warden catches you using one of the parking spaces, not only will you face a Dhs500 fine, you’ll also have your car impounded.

So where exactly are these new spots? Abu Dhabi Municipality has placed them near shopping centres such as the Liwa Centre and the Hamdan Shopping Centre and near the Hamdan Street branches of Spinneys and Co-Op. Another is near twofour54 and Image Nation. Some are also positioned with families in mind. For example, there’s one near Al Noor Hospital, just a block away from the Corniche and Lake Park and Formal Park.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown: you’ll fine 26 near the Liwa and Hamdan Shopping Centres, 18 on the Corniche, 28 off of Fatima Bint Mubarak Street near Le Royal Meridien and Millennium Corniche hotels, 18 near Abu Dhabi Health Authority (off Airport Road, near Al Futtaim Motors), 26 on Liwa Street near the World Trade Center Mall, 25 around Al Noor Hospital and 41 near Image Nation and the Ministry of Labour.

The original scheme in Al Wahda Mall has 80 spaces, meaning the capital now has 262 pink ladies-only parking slots all over the city.
