Is the emirate’s oil company about to launch a new convenient way to fill up your motor?

Ever run out of petrol and been stranded in Abu Dhabi? Abu Dhabi National Oil Company looks set to launch a new service that will make an empty tank roadside, a thing of the past.

A video has appeared on social media showing an ADNOC delivery van bringing petrol to a car parked in a street – the new service is reportedly called Call To Fuel and if you need gas, you book a van using an app on your smartphone. You can check it out in action in the video in the tweet below.

By the looks of the video, you’ll even get to choose between Super and Special (check out the pump in the back of the truck). An ADNOC official told What’s On the video is real and that the service is bring trialled by the company internally, but would neither confirm nor deny that it will be rolled out to the general public in the future, adding: “ADNOC Distribution is focused on improving service, choice and convenience for customers while maintaining our 100% commitment to safety. As part of our company’s transformation, we are looking at a number of customer-centric innovations, some of which are currently being piloted with a small group of customers. We will provide further updates in due course.”

A similar service is currently available in the UK, called Zebra Fuel. It also uses an app.

Presently, if you run out of petrol on the road, you have to call Saeed to come and rescue you. There’s no launch date yet for Call To Fuel, if it ever is launched at all – we have our fingers crossed it will be.
