Dining out at Abu Dhabi’s hotels just got a little bit cheaper…

Abu Dhabi’s Executive Committee has approved a proposal to reduce the fees on sales at hotels and restaurants connected to hotels.

Tourism fees will be cut from 6 per cent to 3.5 per cent and municipality fees from 4 per cent to 2 per cent. The municipality fee for hotel stays has also been reduced from Dhs15 to Dhs10 per room, per night.

Abu Dhabi Executive Committee chairman Jassim Mohammed Buatabh Al Zaabi emphasised the importance of the tourism sector as a key component in the capital’s economic diversification drive and said the move would boost the sector’s development plan.

Abu Dhabi is set to gain from a major tourism push, with recent openings like the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the upcoming Warner Bros. World theme park expected to attract more visitors to the emirate.

The fee cuts come a day after Dubai announced plans to reduce its own municipality fee on sales at restaurants and hotels.

The fee will be slashed from 10 per cent to 7 per cent, following a directive from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.
