Skin need a reboot? Head to Emirates Palace…

Your lungs aren’t the only thing that need oxygen – your skin can also benefit from an extra dose, and O2 facials are becoming more and more popular with celebrities. Even Kate Middleton is said to have gone for one before her royal wedding.

O2 facials are also gaining popularity here in Abu Dhabi, and the Emirates Palace Spa recently introduced two new ones from London brand Linda Meredith that focus on working oxygen back into the skin so it can rejuvenate itself, including the Linda Meredith O2 facial. The spa claims it’s a session that will visibly plump and firm your skin in just one treatment and is designed for all skin types and ages.

The 75-minute treatment kicked off with an application of Linda Meredith’s cream cleanser to remove make-up and reveal the skin underneath, which was followed by the application of a gel cleanser. The therapist then spritzed a much-welcomed hydrating mist all over our face.

Next, a hydrating gel was applied to indicate areas of our skin which were dehydrated, and to open the pores in preparation for extraction of blackheads. After the hydrating gel exfoliator, an enzyme peel was applied to reduce fine lines and hydrate the eye area, followed by a massage using Phyto 4 cream to reduce redness.

Next, a clay mask was applied, but unlike normal clay massages, the purpose was to push hyaluronic acid and beta glucanin into the skin rather than simply absorb it. This technique is believed to maximise the benefits of the treatment.

Once the clay mask was removed, oxygen serum was gently massaged into the skin using a hydrafacial machine. Finally, sunscreen was added to protect skin from the summer heat – this last stage of the treatment added much-needed moisture after lots of exfoliating and pore opening.

So, does it work? What’s On did see a noticeable difference in our skin – it immediately looked visibly plumper and smoother even days later. It’s a relaxing experience and one worth revisiting to give tired skin a boost.
