A massage followed by lunch is surely every office worker’s dream. Spening eight hours a day sitting in a chair that can’t even spell the word ergonomic, nibbling a stale sarnie at your desk for lunch is no way for a human being to live.

To paraphrase the famous Carlsberg ad, if What’s On did lunch, it would look like Okku’s new spa/lunch packages.

Package one: a 50-minute Balinese massage at The H Hotel’s Mandara Spa, followed by a three-course Daichi lunch at Okku for Dhs299. Package two: a 25-minute express body massage, followed by a three-course Daichi lunch for Dhs199. Take a long lunch break on a Thursday, and go for the superb 50-minute massage.

Either way, the Daichi menu is popular (the restaurant was full when we visited at 2pm on Thursday lunchtime) and for good reason. It’s usually Dhs89 for an exemplary miso soup, a choice of one small plate – our salad of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, peppery Asian salad leaves and an orange and ginger vinaigrette was superb – and one main course.

We suggest you choose the silky, sticky, sweet miso marinated black cod. Okku’s food is worth enjoying without a massage, but experiencing it in a Zen-like state is even better than usual.
