What’s On reveals the best traditional Hammam in Dubai at some of the best spas in Dubai, including Saray Spa, One&Only, Rixos and JW Marriott Marquis.

We’ve teamed up with their friends at good to bring you the best spas in the UAE for a traditional scrub.

SARAY SPA
What? There are six different hammams available, from the traditional Turkish to one using gold. Particularly recommended is the Dead Sea treatment, which involves a massage with olive oil soap, steam session then full exfoliation before you’re wrapped in herb-infused mud then washed, and massaged with a healing body oil.

Where? This vast spa has a large traditional hammam for single-sex groups, plus a smaller space for private treatments. Guests also get access to a steam room, sauna, bucket shower and ice room.

Price? Dhs650 for 90 minutes.

Saray Spa, at the JW Marriott Marquis

JW Marriott Marquis, Sheikh Zayed Road, Business Bay, Dubai, daily 9am to 10pm. Tel: (04) 4146754. marriott.com

TURKUAZ HOUSE

What? The Turkish hammam starts with a 15-minute steam, then you are scrubbed with a mitt called a ‘kese’, massaged with bubbles from Turkish soap, your hair is washed by a bikini-clad therapist, then it finishes with a massage using an oil of your choice.

Where? This ladies-only Turkish salon and spa on Al Wasl Road has small, modern marble hammams, making for a private rather than communal experience.

Price? Dhs350 for 90 mins.

Turkuaz House

Villa 1053, Al Wasl Road (between Al Thanya and Al Manara), Umm Suqeim, Dubai, daily 9am to 9pm.
Tel: (04) 3808703. turkuazhouse.net

TALISE OTTOMAN SPA
What? While lying on the central stone, the treatment starts with a hot water rinse followed by a vigorous scrub. Then a quick massage is followed up by a thorough soaping, both front and back. You are then brought to a more private area where your hair is washed and treated to a conditioner. Finally, a honey scrub tones the skin.

Where? With the hammam treatment you are welcome to use the wet or dry sauna, the steamroom and the cold room. The central area for the treatment can accommodate up to 6 women and can be rented for private parties and groups.

Price? Dhs525 for 60 minutes.

Talise Ottoman Spa

Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, The Palm, Dubai, daily from 9am to 9.30pm. Tel: (04) 4530455. jumeirah.com

RIXOS ROYAL SPA

What? Low-lit and decked in white and blue stone, this lovely, traditional hammam certainly looks the part. Taking position on the warm marble stone, you’ll be enveloped in warm water, scrubbed and swathed in bubbles (then massaged), expertly by your therapist. The shorter 40-minute timeframe does, however, mean that there’s no oil applied and massaged in.

Where? Head along the far end of the Palm Jumeirah (Atlantis side) and you reach Rixos The Palm Dubai.

Price? Dhs350 for 40 minutes or Dhs420 for 60 minutes.

Rixos Royal Spa

Rixos The Palm Dubai, Palm Jumeirah East Crescent, Dubai, daily 9am to 11pm. Tel: (04) 4575555. rixos.com

ONE&ONLY SPA
What? After being washed with Moroccan black soap by your therapist, it’s into the steam room to prepare for an intensive all-over body scrub using a hand loofah. A further cleanse – including hair washing – follows, then a traditional body wrap using eucalyptus ‘ghassoul’, or clay. The Royal Hammam concludes with a honey facial and a full body massage on the heated marble slab.

Where? This luxurious mosaic-tiled spa has a communal marble slab in the centre, surrounded by more private alcoves where the initial cleansing takes place.

Price? Dhs525 for 80 minutes.

One&Only Spa

One&Only Royal Mirage, Al Sufouh Road, Dubai, daily 8.30am to 10pm. Tel: (04) 3152130. royalmirage.oneandonlyresorts.com
