The Act Dubai has lined up a very special guest for it’s first birthday party this month – award-winning musician Kelis.

The US star will fly into Dubai for the celebrations on Thursday April 17, the venue has confirmed.

After rocketing to stardom in 1999 with Caught Out There, her explicit anthem for scorned women, Kelis has maintained a foothold in the charts for 15 years with hits like Trick Me and Milkshake.

Having made her name in hip-hop, Kelis has explored more eclectic musical territory in recent years. She scored a US number one with the David Guetta-produced Acapella, and lent her vocals to Calvin Harris’ monster hit Bounce in 2011.

The mother-of-one’s talents aren’t limited to the recording studio. An accomplished chef, Kelis graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and has written a cookbook.

She has released a line of sauces called Feast, and fronted a TV cookery special called Saucy & Sweet on the Cooking Channel back in February.

The Act brought its combination of Peruvian fare and theatrical performances to the Shangri-La Hotel a year ago.

It recently launched a new dinner and show concept called Toys in the Attic.

Guests are invited to choose from three fixed price menus – Fantasia, Nocturia, or Insomnia – before sitting back to witness an assortment of ‘dreams’ played out with song, dance, performance art and specialty acts.

Meanwhile, John Martin, the popular Swedish singer-songwriter who has collaborated with the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Tinie Tempah and Sebastian Ingrosso, will be performing at Cavalli Club on April 20.
