Dubai Creek will receive a Dhs 2billion injection over the coming years, Sheikh Mohammed has announced.

The Al Seef area, which covers a 1.8km plo from Al Fahidi is scheduled for completion by the end of 2016 and will include a floating market, hotels, restaurants, art galleries and shops.

According to news agency WAM, ‘the design of the development will reflect the Emirati traditional identity’.

Speaking last week, the Dubai Ruler said: “Let us work as one team to transform our city into a cultural hub that attracts creative artists. I want Dubai to remain a melting pot for peace, harmony and love, a vibrant place for all.”

Oft-ignored by those in the south of Dubai, The Creek is one of the most beautiful parts of town, housing Park Hyatt, Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, the Boardwalk complex and many more hidden gems.

It is yet huge step forward for the development of Dubai as a world hub, coming a week after Sheikh Mohammed revealed plans for the Emirate to become an ‘open air gallery’ making prime locations around town a focus for street art, installations, photography or sculpture.

“We are giving you the opportunity to make your city into an open air museum – Dubai is your canvas,” he said at the time.

Also last week, a spokeman for Dubai Municipality confirmed progress was good on Dubai Safari Park, a Dhs150million development set to cover more than 120 hectares and house more than 1,000 animals.

Due for completion in 2015, the Al Warqa site was the latest boost to Dubai tourism, with numerous other projects accelerating towards completion, including Aladdin City at Dubai Creek, Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk and shopping malls, the Corniche and BluewatersIslands.
