How can you make a glass of celebratory bubbles even more worthy of a special occasion? If your target market is Dubai, the answer is: “Add 24-carat gold, of course.”

That appears to be the theory behind Lussory Gold 24K, a brand new, halal-certified bottle of fizz that’s just hit the UAE. Created for Lootah Premium Foods in the vineyards of La Mancha, Spain, this sparkling wine is 100 percent halal and completely alcohol free. What it does contain, however, is 24-carat edible gold leaf, which is said to “rise and fall with the wine’s bubbles”.

According to Tony Colley, General Manager of Lootah Premium Foods, the new gold-infused fizz was created to fill a gap in the market for a truly luxurious champagne experience.

“We have experienced great demand for first class, halal champagne from our consumers and clients wishing to offer a premium experience at weddings, birthdays and corporate events,” Mr Colley said. You’ll soon be able to pick up a bottle at Bystro, a café on Al Manara Road, for Dhs550.

Spain-based Lussory has been making red, white and sparkling halal wines for some time. These are made in the exact same way as regular wine or champagne, but with the alcohol removed just before the bottling stage. As well as the lack of alcohol, Lussory wines are also free from artificial flavours, harmful additives and stabilisers, making them a healthier choice than many of their boozier counterparts.

Lussory aren’t the only brand that recognise Dubai’s love of all that glitters. The Talise Ottoman Spa in Jumeirah Zabeel Saray offers a 24-carat gold facial, one of the most expensive spa treatments in the world.
