If you’re feeling nostalgic for the decade that gave us flannel shirts, dungarees and vast quantities of hair gel, then the lineup for MiXTAPE Rewind will have you shining up your Doc Martens. Nineties popstars 5ive, B*witched and Peter Andre are all set to take to the stage at Emirates Golf Club on November 21, along with DJ Tim Cheddar, for a setlist worthy of a school disco.

PETER ANDRE
Big hits: Mysterious Girl (1995), Flava (1996), I Feel You (1996), Insania (2004)

Former six-pack flasher Peter Andre will perform in Dubai fresh from his UK tour to mark the release of Big Night, his first album in two years. Andre, who has in the past been better known for his tabloid antics and failed marriage to model Katie Price than for his singing career, first burst on to the scene in 1995 with the reggae-tinged tune Mysterious Girl. It’s been a bumpy ride…

The highs
During the 1990s, Andre had four top ten UK albums and three number one singles.
He had an impressive list of celeb girlfriends, including Spice Girl Mel B.
In 2002 he came third on the UK reality show, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, which helped revive his music career.
In 2004 he re-released Mysterious Girl and it topped the charts.
In 2014 he kicked off a national UK tour and launched his perfume brand, Scarlet.

The lows
At the 1997 Smash Hits Awards, Andre was given the unfortunate title of ‘Least Fanciable Male’. Rubbing salt into the wound, he also took home the worst haircut gong.
In 2006, his duet album A Whole New World with first wife Katie Price was named the worst album of the decade, beating stiff competition from The Jonas Brothers, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and The Cheeky Girls.
In 2009 – after having two children with Katie Price – the couple had a very ugly, very public divorce.

5IVE
Big hits: Got The Feelin (1998), Slam Dunk Da Funk (1998), Everybody Get Up (1998), Keep On Movin (1999)

Five things you should know…
1) In 1997, more than 3,000 hopefuls auditioned to be part of 5ive, including British comedian Russell Brand.
2) With four top ten albums, 11 UK top ten hits and three number ones, 5ive were the band to beat in the late 1990s.
3) In 2000, 5ive won Best Pop Act at the BRIT Awards.
4) N Sync’s massive hit Bye Bye Bye was originally intended to be recorded by 5ive, but they rejected the song. Oops.
5) The Samaritans – a charity aimed at providing emotional support – were braced for a flurry of calls from distressed fans when the group disbanded in 2001.

B*WITCHED
Big hits: C’Est La Vie (1998), Blame It On The Weatherman (1998), Rollercoaster (1998)

When four deinm-clad Irish girls released their first single, C’est La Vie, in 1998, it quickly stormed to number one. The bouncy tomboys – beloved by pre-teen girls the world over – went on to dominate the charts with four consecutive number one singles. They have a new record out, Champagne Or Guinness.

On their 1990s success
“When we started we were just hoping for a top 20 hit but were gobsmacked when our songs were reaching number one.”
Keavy Lynch

On denim
“We put on double denim by mistake now, and it just makes us smile.”
Edele Lynch

On the music industry
“I think it’s changed so much. Music is faster; artists need to bring out songs at a quicker pace to stay on top.”
Sinead O’Carroll

On lip-syncing
“We mimed a lot in the 1990s because TV cost too much to allow you to sing live.”
Keavy Lynch

On reuniting
“It was tough getting back together as there were things from our past that needed to be dealt with. But once we were back in the studio we remembered how well we worked together.”
Edele Lynch
