PICS: Dubai 2017
Dubai from the sky
We love UAE

We realise you’re all taking a deep breath and dusting yourself down after a frantic end to 2014 with all those events, parties and gigs. But Dubai doesn’t hang about – 2015 is upon us, and it’s already jam packed with things you need to see and do.

There’s Robbie Williams (scream) One Direction (scream louder), the Dubai Food Festival, the jazz festival, the festival of literature, Art Dubai, the Dubai World Cup, the rugby sevens, and the Dubai International Film Festival – plus many more exciting events and gigs in our preview with which to fill your shiny new 2015 diary.

Part of your plan for this year might be to get fit as a fiddle. What about a boot camp? They’re outdoors, they’re fun, you meet other people, and you get motivation from both the trainer and your fellow boot campers. Check out our guide to the best boot camps in Dubai, plus find fantastic ways to get in shape for under Dhs100.

Next up: farmers’ markets. A new one seems to pop up in Dubai every month so it’s important to keep abreast of this growing trend. We’ve gathered them all in one place so you can plan your weekend visit.

If you want to challenge yourself in 2015, you could sign up for one of the many races happening in the UAE this year. Running, swimming, climbing, crawling – it doesn’t matter how you get round them, just do it.

Something with definitely no sweating involved is ballet –unless you’re the one doing the dancing of course. Two world class companies – The Paris Opera Ballet and Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo – will perform in Dubai in January. Also, we have news of a new theatrical event this month: the screening of the London National Theatre’s production of Frankenstein starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller at the Courtyard Playhouse in Al Quoz. It’s part of a new programme that will bring some of the world’s best theatre to Dubai and beam it onto a large screen. Its first two events in December were a hit and the programme continues into the summer.

Finally, something for foodies. We have news of Dubai’s first authentic American barbecue restaurant, which has the splendid name Perry & Blackwelder’s Original Smokehouse. We recommend you put it on your must-try list for 2015. Have a smokin’ 2015 folks.
