As we enter the final stretch, here are a few words from key fitness experts in Dubai as well as age-old inspirational running quotes:

“Remember why you’re running your marathon. When you’re struggling with those training runs that thought will help you.” – Anna Bartlett of TechnoGym

“I think running makes you realise that sometimes you can be really, really strong, and sometimes you will have runs where your head is in the gutter for the whole run, and you need your friends to pull you along. I think it makes you understand how important relationships are.” – Laurence Arca-Bathe, Director of Urban Energy

“Last year we had a lady who ran with us while going through chemo. She was saying it gave her a lot of strength, knowing she could beat this thing. There are a lot of side effects of running.” – Arca-Bathe

“Something I always say to my clients is to make a time inventory. Track down exactly how you’re spending your time. When people clearly see it, they see where they can get a workout in.” – Taleen Khanoyan, personal trainer and ambassador for Sun and Sand Sports ‘rewrite the rules’ campaign

“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.” – Steve Prefontaine, famous long-distance runner who held seven American track records

“Saying your running a marathon and doing one are completely different. It’s not like a half-marathon where you can hang in there.” – Bartlett

“Don’t try to take everything on. It’s ok to be a little selfish. If your house is a mess, it’s ok to clean it up after your workout. Carve that time for yourself.” – Khanoyan

“Twice the guys, double the glory.” – The team at Nike Middle East on a running card sent with We Run DXB race kits

“Rome wasn’t built in a day! I am impatient, so I need to remind myself this when I’m not seeing results as quickly as I would like.” – Hannah Swales, founder of TheHotBoxKit.com

“Keep things interesting. Marathon training can get very boring, so the more you can change it up, the more you will want to do it.” – Bartlett

“Remember, the feeling you get from a good run is far better than the feeling you get from sitting around wishing you were running.” – Sara Condor, Runner and Author

“Also, it’s sometimes just great to receive a medal. You have that medal, it’s in your house, and it’s yours forever. You’ve earned it.” – Arca-Bathe
