An immersive theatre production hailed in London as ‘insanely funny and clever’ is coming to Dubai for a nine-day run.

Brought to the region for the first time by British-based theatre company ‘Angry Bairds’, the show is unconventional in many ways, not least in the fact it is performed around a traditional Emirati sharing meal which comes is included as part of your ticket. Hence the name, ‘Eat Dubai’.

Exploring the attitudes and prejudices to different cultures, ‘Eat Dubai’ has five performers, each bringing to the table – literally – a different strand of UAE life.

There’s the host, Emma, a British expat with a PhD in Comparative Cultural Studies, Bruce, the unconventional Filipino waiter, and three guests; Emma’s husband Dave, outspoken Lebanese man-eater Kim, and Ali, a local Emirati pursuing a career in stand-up.

‘Eat Dubai’ runs from January 14 to January 22 at Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, in the Al Fahidi District. Tickets are priced at Dhs277, which includes dinner, and are available from EventBrite.

Other works by the same time has similarly been lauded, the most notable of which was Pole Factor, which received a five-star rating during its sell-out run at the Vault Festival in London.

Meanwhile, later this month, the internationally-acclaimed ‘West End to Broadway’ show arrives in Dubai, featuring songs from Les Miserables, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, We Will Rock You, Cats and many more.

Stars from the likes of Blood Brothers, Les Miserables, Chicago, Starlight Express and Saturday Night Fever will all perform January 25 to to 31 at Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Mall. Show times at 6pm and 8pm every day.
