The Irish Grammy award-winner Sinéad O’Connor – famous for re-arranging Prince’s song Nothing Compares 2 U into a sensational global hit in the 90s – has confirmed she is coming to Dubai this month.

O’Connor will appear at The Irish Village on January 29 as part of a tour to promote her 10th album, I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss, which has already garnered critical acclaim, surprising fans with her most confident, soul-baring album to date.

I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss has been described as an album of love songs influenced by Chicago blues, with an eye firmly on pop melodies and touches rock attitude.

Over the course of a career spanning almost three decades, Sinéad O’Connor, now 48, has never been too far from tabloid headlines. Known for her brazen, confrontational demeanour, O’Connor was a controversial figure in the 80s and 90s and – coupled with her striking, shaven-head appearance – she attracted equal amounts of condemnation and acclaim.

O’Connor made major headlines in 1992 when she appeared on popular US TV show Saturday Night Live and tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II while urging viewers to “fight the real enemy.” Most recently, O’Connor made the news in 2013 for a spat with pop singer Miley Cyrus after the 22-year-old compared her Wrecking Ball video to O’Connor’s memorable 1990 clip for Nothing Compares 2 U.

Yet despite the hullabaloo, her music has, at times, outshone all the drama: her 1989 album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got was a significant highlight, thanks in no small part to her signature anthem. Meanwhile her musical partnerships have also proved successful including a 2003 collaboration with Brit band Massive Attack.

Whether you’re a fan of the pint-sized rocker, or you’re hoping for some controversy on stage, this concert wont be one you’ll want to miss.
