Considering his first gig was in a small pizza shop in Sweden, Sebastian Ingrosso hasn’t done too badly for himself. He’s headlined at some of the world’s biggest festivals with Swedish House Mafia, and his latest venture with former bandmate Axwell under the name Axwell Λ Ingrosso has found success in its own rights.

Ahead of tonight’s show at Provocateur, What’s On chatted to the DJ himself about his career, festivals and candlelit dinners.

Did you always want to be DJ? I knew I wanted to work with music, but when you’re young its harder to visualise a bigger picture. I never imagined it would be as great as it has been for me so far. You start off doing something simply because it’s what you love to do, and for me the journey evolved from there.

If you weren’t a DJ, what would you be doing? Hmm, I’m not too sure, but I think it would still be music related as this is such a passion of mine.

What’s your all-time, favourite memory as a DJ? I’ve had so many amazing ones, it’s tough to single out just one. Moments like Madison Square Garden, Coachella and Friends Arena in Stockholm have always stuck in my mind. The crowds are fantastic and the setting gives such a buzz that it’s an experience for both the audience and I.

If you could’ve done anything in your career differently, what would you have done? I don’t like to reflect on the ‘what if’ too much. I’d definitely listen more, and take in as much information as I could.  This is what I recommend for anyone looking to become a successful artist; the commitment is not just on the elements that you may already be good at but to understand every aspect of your industry and to keep pushing every day.

SEBASTIAN INGROSSO’S TUNES OF CHOICE FOR …

1) A romantic candlelit dinner.

Maxence Cyrin, Where Is My Mind: “It’s just one of those songs that sets the mood.  The piano is perfect in this song and almost mirrors the ups and downs of the night.”

2) A mad snowboard run down a mountain.

Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Dream Bigger: “We gave that track a lot of energy and it sounds like the sort of thing that could get you down the slope in double speed, a real heavy duty soundtrack.”

3) Before a night out.

Elijah Blake Feat. Dej Loaf, I Just Wanna: “Another immediate good vibes track. Gets you in the mood to dance straight away.”

Provacateur, Four Seasons Dubai, Jumeirah, Thursday February 4, Dhs300. More info on Facebook.
