Our pick of the movies out in Dubai cinemas this week is The Huntsman: A Winter’s Tale. Here are all the flicks you’ll be able to go see from today…

THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR

Ignore the fact that this is technically a Snow White and the Huntsman sequel without Snow White (um, awkward) because it’s brought back the best elements of the 2012 film, and more. Chris Hemsworth returns as the moody, mud-covered huntsman Eric, who must once again face down the Evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron). This time he’s acting as a soldier for her sister the Snow Queen Freya (Emily Blunt) who seems to have Elsa from Frozen-like powers. Jessica Chastain rounds out the cast of strong women nicely as the warrior Sara. Expect lots of action and fantastical special effects.

DEMOLITION

In this heartfelt indie drama, Jake Gyllenhaal is Davis, an investment banker struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife. To cope with his grief, he starts writing complaints letters, starting with one to a vending machine company from the hospital where she died. His letters catch the eye of customer service rep Kate (Naomi Watts) and through their budding friendship, he starts to put the pieces of his life back together.

PRECIOUS CARGO

Sometimes the most you want from a cinema trip is to eat some popcorn and give your brain a vacation. Enter Precious Cargo. It’s the generic action movie you’d expect from Bruce Willis, comparable to Red or the Die Hard sequels: lots of car chases, shoot-outs and wisecracking, while racing against the clock. For once, Willis is the bad guy and his target is Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zach from Saved by the Bell, if you were born in the 80s). They’re both world-class thieves aiming for the same multimillion dollar mark.

I SMILE BACK

Sarah Silverman is one of the funniest comedians we know, but utterly transforms herself for this hard-hitting drama. She plays Laney Brook, a housewife struggling with depression, among other things, who tries to pull herself back together before her problems do irreversible damage to her marriage. It’s a startling performance; no wonder the critics at Sandance Film Festival were impressed.
