Our pick of the movies out in Dubai cinemas this week is Bastille Day, starring Idris Elba and Richard MaddenHere are all the flicks you’ll be able to go see from today…

BASTILLE DAY

We think this action-packed thriller could essentially be Idris Elba’s audition reel for the role of James Bond. Elba plays Sean Briar, a tough CIA field agent, who crosses paths with Michael, an American pickpocket living in Paris (played by Richard Madden, aka Robb Stark from Game of Thrones) when both become mixed up in a terrorist plot to bomb the city on, you guessed it, Bastille Day. It’s great popcorn fodder with some cool high-octane action sequences. Just make Elba 007 already, Hollywood.

GREEN ROOM

Maybe we’ve been de-sensitised by too many Saw sequels, but these days it’s rare to find a horror that’s genuinely scary. Green Room, however, will have you have you hiding your eyes and wishing you’d gone to see The Jungle Book instead. A punk band fronted by Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin plays a gig in what turns out to be a skinhead bar. When they witness a murder, the band comes under attack from a band of violent neo-Nazis, led by a terrifying, barely recognisable Patrick Stewart. Not for the faint-hearted.

MOTHER’S DAY

If you saw Valentine’s Day you’ll know what to expect from this rom com – an ensemble cast of beautiful A-listers and their intertwining stories. Julia Roberts is the career-focused TV presenter who’s contacted by the daughter she put up for adoption, Jennifer Aniston is coping with divorce and two rowdy sons, and Kate Hudson is trying to fix her relationship with her mum. Jason Sudeikis is charming as a single dad too.
