Love nature? Love shopping? Then you’ll love this place…

Dubai’s no stranger to the weird and wonderful. No building is too big, too obscure.

This one, however, is awesome.

Cityland Group, the people behind the Dubai Miracle Garden and Dubai Butterfly Garden have announced their plans to build Cityland, a 2.2 million square foot nature inspired mall (and it will be right near Global Village).

That car-park pattern though.

HUH? NATURE INSPIRED?

Yeah, you read that correctly.

At the centre of the Dhs1.1 billion mall will lie a colossal 200,000 square foot green reserve – an open-air botanical garden.

The ‘Central Park’, looking like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

Inside this green reserve you’ll find a mini version of the Miracle Garden, a mini water park, a 300-year-old ancient tree garden, a Japanese garden, a 360-degree rooftop garden as well as a bundle of restaurants and cafés.

There will also be a 3,000-seat amphitheater and a mini amphitheater for children as a platform for performing arts.

“A central attraction within the mall, access to the park will be free of charge, and will ensure repeat visits,” said Abdel Nasser Rahhal, Vice Chairman of Cityland Group.

“We are bucking the trend of visitors leaving the mall premises with only shopping bags.

“With Cityland Mall they will also take home a part of nature and start the next day with rejuvenated spirit.”

WHAT ELSE IS THERE?

The single-level mall will contain 1.13 million square feet of leasable space (Dubai Mall has 3.77 million to give you perspective of how big that is). The mall will be filled with all kinds of fashion retailers, restaurants, convenience stores and a movie theatre.

Cityland Mall will be made up of six thematic pavillions, each based around a distinct culture and design (how very Ibn Battuta of them).

In total, there’ll be over 350 retail stores, nearly 50 per cent of which will be fashion.

WHERE IS IT?

The property will be built beside Global Village, scheduled for a launch in quarter two of 2018.

Construction hasn’t started yet, but the plans have been approved – so you can soon expect to see work beginning on the side of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road very soon.
