NYC’s organic burger chain arrives in Dubai – worth it, or just expensive mall food?

The word ‘organic’ is bandied around so much that it’s easy to forget what it actually means. Free-range meat from the cows that are pasture-raised on grass free of hormones, pesticides and GMOs – that’s how Bareburger defines it.

The burger chain, which started out in Queens, New York, has officially landed, bringing its organic meat patties with it. However, while it takes its ingredients seriously, Bareburger has a fun and casual vibe.

It’s mall dining – think fries and messy burgers – but less greasy and more wholesome. Don’t expect food court prices, though. The cheapest burger is Dhs42 and it’s their vegan option, the ‘farmstead’. It’s a pretty tasty mess of sweet potato, quinoa, alfafa and a little too much hummus all served in a lettuce leaf.

It’s worth sharing some chips and onion rings (Dhs32) if only for the tangy ginger curry ketchup, which would win over even the most devoted ketchip fan.

The burger menu has something for everyone: beef, lamb, chicken and even wild camel. You can even build your own

The ‘buckaroo’ (Dhs55), with Hereford prime beef burger, brisket, cheddar and smokey sauce, will disappoint those looking for a real BBQ punch, but the quality of the beef makes it an impressive mall food mouthful. It’s a decent patty, made all the more satisfying for being cooked to order.

Good fast food without the greasy feeling? We’d order again.
