Get ready for a showdown in the desert…

Dubai appears to be the favourite to host a “super fight” between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and British boxer Amir Khan.

Both boxers have confirmed on Twitter that the much-anticipated face-off will take place on April 23 – though the venue is yet to be officially announced.

Khan has revealed on Snapchat that the US, UK and UAE are all in the running to host the fight, and says the final location will be confirmed in the next couple of days.

However, The National reports that a deal to hold the fight in the UAE is almost finalised – and if all goes well, Dubai will play host.

Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s legal adviser, seemed to confirm the news, telling the news outlet: “Yes, the fight will be held in the UAE.”

Pacquiao, also known as The Pac Man, tweeted earlier this month that he would be heading to the region, saying, “See you in UAE for my next fight #TeamPacquiao.”

The Filipino superstar’s last fight was in November, and resulted in a victory over American Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas. He also currently has a day job as a politician – he’s Senator of the Philippines, a role he will hold until 2022.

With more than 700,000 Filipinos living in the UAE, a bout here would be a massive money-spinner for the fighter and his promoter.

We’ll let you know as soon as we have the official word…
