Dubai’s three-day “super sale” kicks off this weekend, with some prices to be slashed by up to 90 per cent.
Need to update your Ramadan wardrobe? Perfect timing. Today marks the start of a new three-day super sale in Dubai that will see discounts across 200 brands at more than 750 stores.
You can click here to find a full list of participating brands. Take note, the sale may not be applicable at all outlets, so it’s a good idea to give your shop of choice a quick call before heading in to bag those bargains.
Organised by Dubai Tourism, the sale promises to offer discounts from 30 per cent to 90 per cent on selected items at retailers across the city, from fashion to electronics to homeware.
The sale is set to become a major annual event on the city’s retail calendar.
AND THIS SALE IS EXTRA SPECIAL BECAUSE…
“Oh, there are clearance sales all the time,” you might be thinking.
Well, that could be about to change. Saeed Mohammad Measam Al Falasi, executive director of the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, told Khaleej Times the only times clearance sales will be allowed in Dubai are now…
A) When a store is actually shutting down.
B) During the three-day super sale from May 18 to 20.
C) During the National Day sales in December.
Don’t worry, during events like the Dubai Shopping Festival and Summer Surprises there will still be sales… just not discounts of 90 per cent.
National Day and May are “the only time retailers can run an up to 90 per cent sale, in accordance with the new regulation launched this year,” Al Falasi told the Khaleej Times. “Previously, certain brands ran such high percentage sales for long periods, but now that has changed.”
The only exception, as we noted, is either shutting down or closing the brand at that specific location. The DED has to cancel the shop’s licence before it can put up a clearance sale.
The month of May has been chosen as the clearance period as it coincides well with the fashion cycle and is when retailers are often trying to move on old stock.
