Smile… you’re under arrest!

First, there was Robocop… now Dubai Police has revealed its newest recruit, in the form of an enormous smiley face.

The emoji-like symbol, which is sporting a police cap and performing the three-fingered salute, was unveiled on the ceiling of Dubai’s Al Muraqqabat Police Station last week.

Its beaming yellow face is visible from both inside and outside the Deira station.

“As per the directives of Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief, Maj Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, to create more positive and happy vibes, we came up with the idea of drawing a gigantic smile face on the top of Al Muraqqabat police Station,” said station director Brig Ali Ghanim.

“The smiley face can be seen by passengers in helicopters and planes, which will promote the power of positivity and happiness among them. Dubai is a city that welcomes everyone. It is the city of happiness, hope and forgiveness.”

Expect to see a whole lot more of this cheerful character very soon. Plans are afoot to install smiley faces on the ceilings of all police stations and government buildings across the UAE, according to The National.

Dubai aims to be one of the happiest cities in the world in the next 10 years, and last year the government even appointed a Minister of Happiness.

Dubai Police said it hoped its friendly smiley face was another step towards achieving that goal.
