Yes, that is a huge skyscraper next to the St Regis… Downtown’s ever-changing skyline is about to get a whole lot taller.

Dubai, a city punctuated by tall towers, is about to get even more skyscrapers, and they’ll be right next to Al Habtoor City.

Al Habtoor City and its surrounds have really transformed the Business Bay/Safa Park end of town. First they brought us The St Regis, The W and The Westin hotels. Then came a bunch of new restaurants in The Atrium: there is celeb favourite Blind Dragon, Latin American lounge Zoco and Brit pub The Rose & Crown. After that was the grand unveiling of the Dubai Water Canal with its waterfall over Sheikh Zayed Road and 7km running track linking up Business Bay to Jumeirah Beach.

AYKON CITY

And there’s another huge development coming to the area: DAMAC has started to build Aykon City in Dubai’s ‘Golden Quadrant’. They have described it as “an entire city set within the magnificent metropolis of Dubai”, it’s a four-tower project made up of residential, hotel apartments, office space and a new hotel.

Those who eventually call the 60-storey residences in Aykon City home will have the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountains and Dubai Water Canal as their neighbours. Prices for a two bed now start at Dhs1.3 million (they were being touted as starting from Dhs1.69 million last year).

Wondering just how tall these towers will be? That’s the St Regis over there on the left.

Not one for the faint hearted, Aykon Dare will take centre stage of the new towers. This adrenaline experience will appear on the 80th floor of the city’s brand new hotel and will mean you can actually walk around the outside of the skyscraper. The adventurous will also be able to look down at Dubai from the 285-metres-high glass-floored viewing area.

Here’s a map that gives you an idea of where Aykon City will eventually be:

The area will also have an ‘entertainment hub’ called Aykon Plaza, where you’ll find shopping, food, entertainment and fitness offerings. Damac are saying it will have a “beach club” style layout with swimming pools, numerous cafes and restaurants, several Yoga and Tai-chi areas, a private members’ club and a spa. It’s set to be completed in 2021.

AND THERE’S ANOTHER PROJECT COMING UP THERE TOO…

And that’s not all, it’s now also been reported that Dubai Investments will start development of a Dhs1 billion skyscraper in the area. Scheduled to be ready for 2020, the 70-storey residential tower will sit between Al Habtoor and Aykon cities.

The currently unnamed tower will join an ever-growing list of residential towers that have 70 floors or more. Others include Princess Tower, Sulafa Tower, The Torch and Mag 218 (all in Dubai Marina).
