A drum and bass set, a garage night with a famous headliner and a new residency from a local band…

If you’re looking for a night out this Eid weekend that’s a bit different to the rest of the (house, R&B or top 20) crowd, look no further.

As September rolls in so does a one-off drum ‘n’ bass night in Downtown, a new old school garage night at a secret club, and a new residency for a local band…

Here are the three alternative nights out in Dubai this weekend…

Drum ‘n’ Bass at The Black Lion

East-London inspired pub The Black Lion will be holding its first ever Drum ‘n’ Bass night, Bass Invaders, on Saturday September 2. Drum ‘n’ Bass lovers can party to the sounds of award-winning DJs from 8pm till late. DJ Source will be taking to the decks and has held a number of residencies, supported some of Drum ‘n’ Bass’ biggest pioneers including Fabio, Marcus Intalex and Total Science and has also played sets at the iconic Bassworx nights.

The event is free entry, and brunch packages are available from Dhs250, and happy hour prices will be available on drinks all night.

The Black Lion, H Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road, Saturday Sept 2, 8pm to 3am, free entry. Tel: (04) 359 2366. More info on website.

Elisabeth Troy at Square Dxb

There’s a weekly old school and garage night, Elevate, happening at new nightclub Square every Saturday. Expect a host of old school hits from resident DJs Mickey Simms, Andy Paul and Smokin Groove as well as two regular MCs. “With Garage music making waves, a lot of the original producers are back in the studio so you can expect to hear great new material at Elevate”, said DJ Mickey Simms of his residency. To kick things off, Elisabeth Troy of Clean Bandit fame is flying in to Dubai for a one-off gig.

Square Dxb, 5th floor JW Mariott Marquis, Business Bay, Saturday Sept 2, 10pm to 3am, Dhs100 before 12am, Dhs200 after. Tel:(055) 195 9193. More info on Facebook

The band, who have previously toured the Middle East and opened for Bon Jovi, will perform a setlist of funky rock hits every Friday from 8.30pm to 1am. There’s also a new specialist drink ‘The Mafia Shot’ for Dhs25 available on the night.
