1. Miss Tess, Business Bay

WHAT: Miss Tess is set to open on the third floor of the Taj Hotel in Business Bay this month. The concept describes that it is a street food restaurant inspired by a story. Led by Miss Tess, expect Asian street food served with a side of theatrics. The food menu will apparently take inspiration from the streets of China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan, so we can expect a mix of Asian favourites when this restaurant opens later this month.

Set to open in Burj Daman, DIFC at the start of September, the licensed restaurant will specialise in fresh pasta with a back-to-basics approach to cuisine: think simple food and family-style meals. Although the menu will be centred around fresh pasta, Ravioli & Co will offer a traditional menu of both shared and individual dishes for lunch and dinner. Lower calorie and gluten free pasta varieties, as well as vegetarian-friendly menu items will also be available on site, in addition to an in-house bakery, cooking classes and delivery.

It will serve up simple wholesome dishes, experimental cocktails and a friendly neighbourhood atmosphere. It aims to have a cool London vibe, with a focus on market kitchens and recovery-style weekend breakfast brunches. Count us in.

6. Black Tap, JBR

WHAT: Back in May we told you that a second Black Tap is opening in JBR. And as the queues seem only to be getting longer to get into the first one (the wait for a table is up to two hours on the weekend), it seems it couldn’t come soon enough. Expected to open at the end of September, you can expect another round of calorific monster freakshakes, a wide selection of craft beers and their signature burgers too.

WHAT: Another of the three planned STK openings for the UAE (two in Dubai, one in Abu Dhabi), American steakhouse brand STK, which has venues across the US and Europe, is opening in the new Rixos Premium on JBR. The hotel already has home-grown beach club Azure Beach, and will also house several other concepts that will arrive this year. It will have a 220-seat capacity spread over an impressive 10,000 square feet of beachfront space. STK JBR The Walk will incorporate STK menu staples as well as new offerings that are more suitable for the beachfront location.

9. BarBary, Barsha Heights

WHAT: BarBary, is set to open in the TRYP by Wyndham later this year. Although we don’t know much about the opening, we’re already excited. Described as a Deli + Cocktail Club, BarBary is equal parts retro Cocktail Bar and Delicatessen. BarBary is being slated as a ‘decorous blend of clandestine bar haughtiness and illicit parlor opulence’. This could fast become the go-to destination for both lunch and dinner.

WHERE: TRYP by Wyndham, Barsha Heights.

WHEN: October 2017.

10. L!QD, Barsha Heights

WHAT: Ibiza meets Coachella at laid-back, outdoor pool bar L!QD, which is expected to open this October at TRYP by Wyndham. Described as a luxe-bohemian venue, it will serve up tapas, light bites and a detailed cocktail and craft beer menu. There will also be early morning yoga sessions by the pool, and a ladies’ night and other promotions are also expected to be introduced before the year is out. It’s a day-to-night style venue, that might just become the new favourite for Barsha Heights residents.

WHERE: TRYP by Wyndham, Barsha Heights.

WHEN: October 2017.

11. The Roost Rotisserie, Jumeirah

WHAT: This self-described community dining destination will open in a new development in Jumeirah this autumn. The unlicensed Roost Rotisserie is a natural, from-the-earth offering promising to deliver fresh and seasonal home cooking to a mid-end market. A teaser look at the menu hints that though the “char” will be the focus, there will be plenty of other options too. You’ll be able to see your order cooked in front of you from the rotisserie or custom made grill, and a speciality coffee shop is also planned for inside the space. One thing we do know, the roastwiches are already making us hungry.

WHERE: API Development, Opposite Al Wasl Road, Al Thanya.

WHEN: October 2017.

12. Le Specialità, DIFC

WHAT: Italian Pizzeria Le Specialità was originally planned for DIFC, but will now make its debut at the terrace of Billionaire mansion, adjacent to Sumosan restaurant. One of two Italian concepts set for Downtown this year, this will be only the second Le Specialità concept in the world, and the first outside of Italy. Founded in 1977, the pizzeria has become famous in Italy for its celiac and gluten-free options and the menu consists of more than 50 varieties of pizza. But if the Milan menu is anything to go by, it won’t just be about the pizza. Expect to see a collection of fresh fish, meat and pasta dishes too.

WHERE: Billionaire Mansion, Business Bay

WHEN: November 2017.

13. Beefbar, DIFC

WHAT: Described on its website as a concept that was ‘conceived to break the traditional codes of rigid and high-end cuisine’, this will be the sixth Beefbar location globally. As the name suggests, this Monaco-born concept is a carnivore’s paradise, with a menu split into three sections. First, the street food to share features small portions of recipes from around the globe. The great meats section of the menu sounds most exciting: Beefbar has a unique patented method of cooking in order to achieve a crispy meat seal with a tender, juicy taste. To accompany each cut, there are more than 15 house purees cooked with butter and a selection of spices and condiments. The final part of the menu sees a selection of incredible dishes, including fresh fish, risotto and pasta. While no images have been released of the new concept’s site in Dubai, if the Beefbar Instagram is anything to go by, we’re already hungry.

WHERE: Replacing Greg Malouf’s lounge Cle, it will join Jekyll & Hyde, Sass Cafe and Dusty’s in Al Fattan Currency House.

WHEN: November 2017.

14. Crazyfish

WHAT: Stealing the spot that was planned for Le Specialita, Monte Carlo brand Crazy Fish is headed to Dubai. Although an official opening date is still unconfirmed, we’re told it’s likely to be November. This is the world’s second branch, and it’s a quick expansion for Crazy Fish, which only opened in Monte Carlo in May this year. The seafood restaurant and terrace is all about fresh fish done well (and you can choose your catch, as shown in the picture above).

WHERE: Al Fattan Currency House, alongside Beefbar.

WHEN: November 2017

15. Le Petit Belge, Business Bay

WHAT: The popular Belgian eatery in JLT is opening a second branch in the newly-opened DoubleTree by Hilton in Bay Square. Le Petit Belge serves Belgian brews and classic Belgian staples such as Moules Frites in a fun and casual atmosphere, and the restaurant is expected to open in Bay Square later this year. If it’s anything like the JLT one, we hope to see the all-day ladies night deal and a breakfast brunch also kick off at the new outlet.

WHERE: Bay Square, Business Bay.

WHEN: November

16. Pizza Express Live, Business Bay

WHAT: The first PizzaExpress Live restaurant outside of the UK combines a popular Italian menu with live performances including music, stand-up comedy and sport. Pizzaiolos (that’s the pizza chefs) wearing the iconic black and white stripes will showcase their skills from an open kitchen, creating fresh pizza, pastas, salads and desserts. The venue boasts a mezzanine floor so diners will have a fantastic view of the action. The restaurant also features a large terrace opening onto the bustling Bay Square. It’s the second of two more openings expected at the brand new DoubleTree by Hilton Business Bay, which opened in July. The hotel is already home to My Square, an all-day bistro, and Bay Club, the rooftop pool bar serving up Downtown views and daily happy hour deals.

WHERE: Bay Square, Business Bay.

WHEN: November

17. Gotha

WHAT: This super club has been hotly anticipated since social media began popping up for the venue in 2015. Now in the final stages of pre-opening, we can expect the Cannes export to make a splash before the year is out. Famed for hosting world class performers including David Guetta, Ne-Yo and Akon, you can expect some pretty big names on a weekly basis once Gotha opens.

WHERE: Radisson Blu, Business Bay

WHEN: December

18. DOME

WHAT: For this, all we know is that it’s coming. The new club will be the second nightclub in Al Habtoor City, joining BOA which occupies the 32nd floor of the W Hotel. Described as a lounge and club on its website, we’re expecting another party hard space from DOME.

WHERE: Level 44, The Westin

WHEN: November/December

19. Seaspice, Jumeirah

WHAT: This waterfront dining experience is an import from Miami: think seafood and a lively atmosphere. If it’s anything like its American counterpart, we expect it will draw in a fairly glamorous crowd.

WHERE: La Mer, Jumeirah (you can read all about that here)

WHEN: 2018

20. *NEW* Masti

WHAT: We don’t know much about this place yet, but the home grown concept is saying it will serve the flavours of ‘New India’ and that its focus is ‘Cocktails and Cuisine’ (two things that we definitely like).

WHERE: La Mer, Jumeirah (you can read all about that here)

WHEN: 2018
