7 roast dinners in Dubai to try (the pics will make you hungry right now)

By

Fancy a long, lazy lunch this weekend that will fill you up? We’ve got seven roast dinners that will hit the spot…

Typically known for fish and chips or bangers and mash, British fare is often regarded as a bit of an underdog in the world of international cuisine.

But even the biggest food connoisseur would struggle to turn down a proper roast dinner.

Here are six of our favourite roast dinners in Dubai – complete with all the trimmings, obviously.

1. Marina Social
Price: Dhs150/Dhs195

Only order the three courses here if you are seriously hungry, as this upmarket Saturday roast is filling. Book a table on the gorgeous Marina-view terrace and make an afternoon of it. It’s great for groups as there are five choices for every course (we highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding), so there’s something for everyone.

The roast beef with Yorkshire pudding comes with perfectly-crisped potatoes, as well as sauerkraut, honey carrots and literal lashings of gravy. It’s fine-dining meets comfort food.

Intercontinental, Dubai Marina, 12pm to 3pm, Saturdays, Dhs150 or Dhs195 per person. Tel: (04) 446 6664. Taxi: InterContinental Dubai Marina. marinasocialdubai.com

2. The Scene
Price: Dhs119

Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer’s popular British restaurant in Dubai Marina serves up an all-day roast every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There’s lamb, beef, chicken or nutloaf for the veggies, and they’re all served up with seasonal vegetables and a giant Yorkshire pudding. There’s also the option to supersize for the extra-hungry, or add a bottle of wine for Dhs120.

4th Floor, Pier 7, Dubai Marina, Fri to Sun, 12pm to 11.30pm, Dhs119. Tel: (04) 222 2328. More info on website

3. Barrel 12
Price: Dhs99

There’s a selection of offers to be had alongside Barrel 12’s Great British Roast, which costs Dhs99. This urban sports bistro lets you add a selected beer for Dhs25, or if you feel like a few more, you can enjoy the roast and two hours of beverages for Dhs195 (but only over summer).

Palm Views East, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, Sat and Sun, 12pm to 9pm, Dhs99. Tel: (04) 552 4000. More info on website

4. Dhow & Anchor
Price: Dhs120

Not just for the weekends, the Chef’s Roast of the Day is served daily with a different meat each day. All roasts are served with roasted root vegetables, Maris Piper potatoes and gravy, for a truly traditional British roast.

Jumeirah Beach Hotel, daily 12pm to 11.30pm, from Dhs120. Tel: (04) 406 8720. More info on website

5. Lock, Stock & Barrel
Price: Dhs129

For a real home-away-from-home feeling, perennial Dubai favourite Lock, Stock & Barrel serves up its all-day roast every Saturday and Sunday alongside all the sporting action on the big screens. Enjoy two meats from a selection of beef, chicken or lamb, plus happy hour runs from 4pm-8pm with buy one get one free on selected drinks.

Grand Millenium, Barsha Heights, Saturday & Sunday 12pm to 10pm, Dhs129. Tel: (04) 514 9195. More info on website

6. Reform Social & Grill
Price: Dhs115

This family-friendly spot in The Lakes serves up a roast dinner every Saturday and Sunday. There’s a variety of meats on the menu and it’s served up with all the classic English trimmings and lashings of gravy. With views of the lake and a proper pub garden to be enjoyed in the cooler months, you could easily be mistaken for thinking you were in the UK.

The Lakes, Saturday & Sunday 12pm to 11.30pm, from Dhs115. Tel: (04) 454 2638. More info on website

7. Gaucho
Price: Dhs185

There’s an upscale Argentinian twist on the weekend roast at Gaucho Dubai. The vegetables might be typically traditional, but the cuts of meat on offer include sirloin, ribeye or whole spatchcock chicken. For a more upscale affair, choose the Gaucho Asado (Dhs350). Perfect for sharing, it’s served with truffle scented chips, humita salteña, grilled tomatoes, portobello mushrooms, fried eggs and chimichurri.

Gate Village 5, DIFC, Saturday & Sunday 12pm to 11.30pm, from Dhs185. Tel: (04) 422 7898. More info on website
