On the occasion of the birth of the prophet Mohammed (PBUH), there will be a 24-hour dry period in the emirate

The final public holiday of the year is next week, to mark the birth of the prophet Mohammed (PBUH). It also co-insides with UAE National Day, which falls this year on a Saturday.

We already know that public sector workers will be given a four day weekend, but there’s still no word on how the long weekend will fall for private companies.

But with the public holiday for the birth of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), comes a dry night in the UAE.

And now a communication issued by The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has confirmed that the dry period will run from 5pm on Thursday November 30 until 6pm on Friday December 1.

Many of you will be very familiar with the concept of a dry day, but for those that aren’t, here’s how it works:

During a dry day, no alcohol is served across Dubai and the UAE. This applies to all outlets, including hotels.

For events ongoing across the city, we’re still awaiting updates on whether they will be moved. In initial communication, organisers of the Take That concert stated that if Thursday was declared dry, the concert would be moved to the Wednesday night.
