Why not book a ‘daycation’, which means you can chill at a pool or on a lush hotel beach for the day, have a spot of lunch, and even head to a fancy gym, but you’ll pay less than half of what you’d have to cough up for a five-star night.

Perfect for: Bathing under the Burj Al Arab.

The only way you can beat this beach club’s view of the Burj Al Arab is if you get on a boat. The new spot at Jumeirah Al Naseem is quite literally under the shadow of the Burj (don’t worry though, it won’t stop your tan game). The luxury club has a white sand beach, an infinity pool and music that’s just loud enough to add atmosphere. Go in the morning if you want to read a book, or head there in the afternoon if you’re after a livelier vibe.

3. El Chiringuito, The Palm
Perfect for: Beachside Balearic Vibes.

This is arguably the prettiest location in Dubai: think white cabanas, dream catchers and draping floral arrangements that make you feel like you’ve left the desert. There’s a great a la carte menu of ‘Mediterrasian’ food, plus a Saturday brunch menu that’s worth the trip alone. It might not be the biggest pool in Dubai, but there’s a luxurious Ibizan feel to it that makes it perfect for getting away from it all.

The recently opened Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Bay Square boasts a temperature-controlled pool on its outdoor terrace, making it a great spot for mid-week or weekend ray-catching. There’s a mix of loungers and cabanas, as well as the Bay Club poolside bar and restaurant which serves up light bites, shisha and signature cocktails daily.

5. Nikki Beach Club, Pearl Jumeira
Perfect for: Poolside glamour.

This luxury beachside destination features in-water loungers, Jacuzzis and inflatables, and spans across an impressive site on the Pearl Jumeirah that leads out onto the beach. If you’re feeling hungry, you can order one of their signature ‘sushi and ceviche boats’, which arrives, as you’d expect, on a wooden boat. It’s a bold swimwear affair, with dancers, live musicians and resident DJs.

This recently revamped beach club on The Palm isn’t the easiest to find, but it’s worth it when you get there. There’s a large pool that opens out with views onto The Palm, and a large patch of white sandy beach for those who prefer the ocean to the pool. It’s family friendly, with a poolside beach bar and lounge, and children’s pool for the little ones.

7. Zero Gravity
Perfect for: People spotting.

Zero Gravity is one of the best for a party crowd: a host of DJs spin decks every weekend, and the pool itself is huge. The glass side that looks out to the beach is perfect for the snap-happy. There aren’t many single loungers by the pool, but cabanas are available with minimum spends for a VIP experience. On Saturdays, the day pass includes access to the five-hour brunch from noon, which is served poolside.

Most of Dubai knows Nasimi as an after-dark party spot, but it’s just as popular during the day. This sprawling beach on the Palm has a mix of sun loungers and cabanas available on a first-come-first-served basis. Perfect for: Beachfront lounging.
Big, brash and boisterous, Barasti is a Brit expat favourite, and quickly packs out with people. The giant top deck screens football and rugby, live bands perform at sunset, and there’s a daily happy hour from 4pm to 7pm. Plus, they’ve just opened a brand new pool. The Wet Deck pool snakes right the way across the seventh floor of the W Hotel in Al Habtoor City. Sleek cabanas are dotted around the sides, and there’s a raised jacuzzi, a bar and a DJ booth. It’s usually got a laid-back vibe, and you can often catch free rooftop yoga classes there too. But check ahead if you’re after some peace and quiet, as a new ladies’ day takes over on Tuesday, with free access for all the girls, and a complimentary cocktail for the first 100 through the door.

Spend Dhs75 on a pool pass at this inner-city hotel and you can then use that Dhs75 towards food and drink. So yes, the pool pass can be effectively a free add on to your lunch. Oh, and this is on offer seven days a week.

Perfect for: When your mum’s visiting and you take a day off work.

The pool at this hotel looks out over the Burj Lake, and its loungers are nicely spread out under the shade of palm trees. For Dhs300 you can spend the day at this pool (just not on Fridays) and you can also use the steam room and the jacuzzi in the spa.
