The Meydan’s takeaway turkeys are very popular – so much so you need to order your bird 72 hours in advance. We picked one up last year for Christmas and really rated it. You can get a turkey to feed five to eight people with roast potatoes, chipolatas, roast vegetables, cranberry sauce and gravy for Dhs750; a large turkey to feed nine to 12 people with roast potatoes, chipolatas, roast vegetables, cranberry sauce and gravy for Dhs850. Or, you can get the complete holiday package for Dhs1,200 – that includes a large turkey with roast potatoes, chipolatas, roast vegetables, Brussels sprouts, glazed chestnuts, cranberry sauce and gravy, festive pudding, 12 fruit mince pies, pecan pie, bon bons and festive cookies.

You have to order 72 hours in advance, and then pick the order up at the hotel from 11am to 6pm on December 24 and 25.

AFTERNOON TEA

From November 25 to December 30, the hotel is putting on an all-out festive afternoon tea – and you can sit on the al-fresco terrace (which has gorgeous views of the green, world-class racecourse). Expect festive sweets and savouries, and, of course, freshly-baked scones. If you’re finding it too chilly outside at the moment, you can also sample the tea inside the Millennium Lounge (where there will be a live pianist too).

A WARM-UP FESTIVE BRUNCH

If you want to have a Christmas brunch but not on the big day, then book in for the pre-Christmas festive brunch at Farriers on Friday December 22. There will be al-fresco seating, a festive-inspired (and huge) buffet, a live band and a full kids area (where there will be supervision so that parents can sit back and enjoy the food).

CHRISTMAS EVE BRUNCH & DINNER

And there’s a special Farriers brunch on Christmas Eve too, running from either 12.30pm to 3pm or 6.30pm to 11pm (so you can make it festive brunch or dinner). The lunch buffet with water and soft drinks is Dhs195 per person, or Dhs295 with house drinks; while the dinner buffet is Dhs295 soft or Dhs395 with unlimited house drinks. SLAP-UP CHRISTMAS EVE DINNERS

If you fancy a luxuriant a-la-carte dinner on Christmas Eve, then Prime has a special four-course set menu on offer the night before Christmas. The menu will feature some of the world’s most premium cuts of beef and has been specially put together by Chef Raphael Raschke. There will also be an Asian-flavoured Christmas Eve dinner at Shibu – with a four-course set menu prepared by two chefs – Chef Masakazu Mikuriya from Japan and Chef Bing Xia from China.

The Farriers brunch will be something extra special on Christmas Day – they’re pulling out all the stops to make it feel festive, and there will be a bouncy castle, face painting and interactive games for little ones. Meydan offers a fantastic panoramic view of Dubai’s skyline, which will be a great vantage point for the new Downtown Dubai light show happening at midnight on NYE. Or, if you fancy a laid-back NYE then Qube is a great option – for Dhs395 per person you’ll get unlimited selected beverages from 9pm to 1am at Qube bar (and then there’s a cash bar until 3am). You could play darts, pools or shuffle board throughout the night and you’ll get great views of the Burj Khalifa for NYE too.
