I moved over from London in 2010. I think it takes time to fall in love with Dubai, but it’s inevitable.

My wife and I have married since we moved over here and now have a child; so it’s definitely home. We moved to Dubai Marina after three years in the city. I really like the Marina – it’s great for an evening out, it’s child-friendly, and there are many places to eat.

Baker & Spice is not a hidden gem, but it’s a great cafe that serves well-sourced ingredients cooked nicely. It’s a lovely place to sit outside with a coffee and we always pick up some of their freshly baked bread.

My wife is a huge fan of Marks & Spencer’s food and could spend both our salaries there if she had the chance. It provides a welcome taste of the UK if we’re missing home.

Bistro Des Arts is a lovely place that offers a real taste of France in the Marina. They run a really well priced Apertivo happy hour menu every evening.

When I get time I go fishing at The Jetti at Al Sufouh public beach. Early in the morning the whole beach is empty and it’s extremely peaceful. I tend to work Fridays at Folly and then have Saturday off. I’ll catch up on a bit of sleep on Saturday morning, although I have far less of that than I used to since our daughter Georgia was born ten weeks ago.

We often walk to JBR when we can. There’s a really nice grassy area outside Lime Tree Cafe where you can grab picnic food, then watch the world go by.
