Who’s ready for a little online retail therapy?

When e-commerce giant Amazon bought Souq.com earlier this year it signaled the beginning of a pretty big shake up for online shopping in the region.

It’s been a slow transition (we’re still waiting for Kindles to be sold here officially!) but we’re finally starting to see the fruits of the buyout with the launch today of the Amazon Global Store. This new section of the Souq website allows customers to purchase products directly from the US mega retailer and have them delivered directly to their door here in the UAE.

This means shoppers in the UAE now have access to an enormous catalogue of products available on Amazon.com. While this isn’t everything included in the US Amazon store, Souq says there are “over one million products” available in everything from apparel, handbags, shoes, electronics, watches, kitchen goods, and more. After a quick perusal of the site we spotted brands like Wrangler, Tommy Hilfiger, Timberland, Native Eyewear and Samsonite, with more to be added in the coming months.

Products that fall under the scheme are clearly marked with an ‘Amazon Global Store’ badge (on both the website and mobile) and, when ordered, Souq will automatically calculate any applicable import fees and include them in the final bill so that there are no nasty surprises when your new pair of loafers shows up to be cleared by customs.

You are able to opt for extra fast delivery that can get your goodies here in between 2-5 business days (for an extra fee, of course), and best of all, there’s a 30-day full refund policy which is great news for anyone who’s been burnt buying stuff online from the US in the past.
