The fog is expected to stick around for the rest of the week…

Dense fog has blanketed Dubai for the fourth day this week, causing flights to be diverted or delayed during the busy holiday period.

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) said the conditions were expected to continue for the next few days, with a chance of fog and mist formation over internal and coastal areas.

Several flights departing from and arriving at Dubai International Airport have faced delays, according to the airport website.

According to Flightradar24, the average delay time at Dubai International Airport on Tuesday morning was 94 minutes for arrivals and 70 minutes for departures.

The Middle East Aviation Twitter account showed a number of flights attempting to divert to Al Maktoum International Airport.

The fog wreaked havoc on many Christmas Eve travellers, with 53 flights diverted and 10 Emirates flights cancelled because of the weather.

Passengers reported being stranded at the airport for up to 15 hours as they waited to board new flights.

Planes could be seen in a holding pattern over the airport on Sunday morning, waiting to land.

The fog phenomenon is rare in the UAE, typically only occurring a few times a year.

Many Dubai residents have been sharing photos and videos of the city engulfed in fog:
