That’s right, it will even trump Dubai Mall…

Dubai is already a shopper’s paradise, home to some of the most luxurious malls in the world.

And shopaholics will soon be able to add another consumerist haven to their hit lists, with work to begin very soon on Deira Mall.

The new mall – which will be located on the Deira Islands development – will have 4.5 million square feet of gross leasable space, making it the biggest mall in the Middle East.

Hang on, what about Dubai Mall? Well, while Dubai Mall is the world’s largest by total area, it only (ha, only) has 3.77 million square feet of leasable space. Gross leasable space means any space that can be rented out to shops, restaurants etc – so not open spaces or atriums.

Deira Mall is expected to house more than 1000 shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as department stores, a hypermarket, cinema, and 15,000-square-foot entertainment zone.

The star attraction of the mall will be a state-of-the-art retractable glass roof, which will bring natural light into the mall and allow for open-air shopping during the cooler months.

So, when can we hit the shops? Developer Nakheel says construction will begin in the first quarter of this year, with the mall expected to be completed in 2021.

But that’s not all there is to look forward to – Deira Islands will also be home to the world’s largest night market, with space for 5300 shops and 100 cafes and restaurants.

Here’s what it will look like:

Construction of the Deira Islands Night Souk is already in full swing, with the project due to be completed later this year.
