The proposed sea taxis would allow residents and visitors to get from Sharjah to Dubai Marina in 20 to 40 minutes…

Residents who live in Sharjah are all-too-familiar with the lengthy traffic delays they face when heading in and out of Dubai. But there might soon be a solution, as talks are underway for the introduction of a Dubai to Sharjah water taxi.

According to Khaleej Times, Sharjah Oasis Real Estate Development CEO Sultan Al Shakrah revealed plans for the Sharjah Waterfront Marina could include ‘sea taxis’ which would transport residents and visitors from the upcoming Sharjah Waterfront City and Dubai Marina.

“We are seeing a growing interest among residents to stay in Sharjah,” he said. “For this to happen, we have to ensure that residents are not inconvenienced by long commuting times to other emirates. To help residents that will be living at Sharjah Waterfront City avoid getting stuck in traffic, we have devised a proposal for the RTA for sea taxis.”

The CEO also indicated that the travel time between the two marinas would be between 20 and 40 minutes. That certainly beats sitting on Sheikh Zayed Road for an hour.

According to the same report, the proposal has been pitched to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, and talks are still ongoing.

If given the go ahead, the new network could also open up opportunities for marine travel between other emirates, such as Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi.

The Sharjah Waterfront City Marina currently has a designated area for 800 berths. A plan for a water taxi station within that location is still in the works.
