The rail network will carry both passenger and cargo trains
Train buffs take note, it appears that the UAE is set to establish a direct rail link with Saudi Arabia by the end of 2021.
The rail network is planned to be 2,100km in length and will carry both passengers and cargo trains, ultimately connecting all six GCC states in the future.
According to a report by Gulf News, a senior official from the Federal Authority for Land and Marine Transport confirmed at a conference in Dubai that they are looking to have the route between the UAE and Saudi ready by December 2021, narrowly missing out on the upcoming Expo 2020.
While there is no further information on the kinds of trains that will be used, we suspect that it will be a more conventional network and not like the super futuristic Hyperloop system that’s purported to be able to shuttle passengers between Dubai and Abu Dhabi in only 12 minutes.
