Las Vegas legends, movie-themed suites, ultra luxury resorts and all-female teams…
2018 has already served up the opening of the new world’s tallest hotel, a new Jumeirah spot in Al Seef, an Aloft hotel in Production City, a wallet-friendly Rove hotel in the Marina and a Business Bay Radisson Blu that’s right on the canal front. But there’s still plenty more to come.
As well as legendary brands Mandarin Oriental and Caesars Palace making their Middle Eastern debut, there’s a second serving of The W, an uber-luxury resort on The Palm and a female-run spot in Barsha Heights still to come.
Here are 8 hotels set to open in 2018.
Emerald Palace Kempinski, The Palm
Located on the West Crescent, the 100,000 square metre Emerald Palace Kempinski Dubai will open at some point this year. Inside, you’ll find 389 rooms and suites, eight restaurants and bars, a Cinq Mondes Spa, 500m private white sand beach, 80-seat private cinema and the city’s largest indoor pool.
Caesars Palace, Bluewaters Island
Bluewaters Island off JBR is set to become home to a second serving of famous Las Vegas hotel, Caesars Palace. The collaboration between Caesars Entertainment and Dubai based developer Meraas will see two luxury hotels, a conference centre and brand new beach club all open later this year. Although no details of what this will look like are being released, if it’s anything like the famous Las Vegas version we’re expecting some pretty lavish, roman-inspired decor.
Aloft Dubai City Centre Deira
Set to open this June is the movie-themed Aloft Dubai City Centre Deira, which will feature 25 rooms built to cater especially to true film aficionados. Each of the themed rooms will be kitted out with a large collection of films, TV screens, projectors and enhanced sound systems, for an authentic cinema experience.
Stella di Mare, Dubai Marina
The first international Stella Di Mare is set to open in the first quarter of 2018. The Egyptian hotel chain will open a 369-key, five-star property on the edge of Dubai Marina, spanning 31 floors and coming complete with three restaurants, three bars, a luxury spa, swimming pool, gym and salon. Our eye is on the signature rooftop bar, Skyland, located on level 31.
W The Palm, Palm Jumeirah
Although we got our first serving of W action in 2016, a second W hotel is set to open on the Palm in June. Guests can bask in Arabian Gulf or Dubai skyline views from the extensive terrace of one of the resort’s 350 guest rooms, including 58 suites. There will be a big leisure and spa focus here, with the region’s first AWAY Spa which combines a lively atmosphere with the ultimate pampering experience, a wet deck that sets the scene for poolside play, and a state-of-the-art gym.
Grand Millennium, Business Bay
Another addition to the Business Bay hotel scene is the Grand Millennium Business Bay. Set to open in the middle of the year, the hotel will offer breath-taking canal views and five star amenities. Expect 251 rooms and suites as well as seven restaurants including Mexican rooftop restaurant “Toca Madera”. We’re yet to learn of the other restaurants joining the Mexican rooftop spot, but with homegrown concepts Lucky Voice and Lock Stock and Barrel some of our favourites in the city at the Barsha Heights branch, we’ve got high expectations.
Time Asma, Barsha Heights
Expected to open in the second quarter of the year, Time Asma is another addition to the Barsha Heights neighbourhood. Spread over six floors, the hotel will come with all the standard amenities including a gym, spa and all-day dining restaurant. However, there’s one key feature about the Time Asma; it’s going to be run almost entirely by women. 80 per cent of the four star hotel’s team members will be female, and there will be dedicated services including a ladies-only check-in counter, babysitting, in-room beauty treatments, ladies-only taxis and parking spaces.
Mandarin Oriental Jumeira Beach, Jumeirah
The first of two Dubai openings for the famed five-star Mandarin Oriental, Mandarin Oriental Jumeira Beach is expected to open towards the end of the year. The 200-key property will include 12 over-the-water villas complete with infinity pool, offer dining options from nine dynamic restaurants and bars including a signature pier-top restaurant with dedicated docking facilities, and 525 square metre ballroom. Continuing with the lavish facilities, a 2,800 square metre spa will feature 12 treatment rooms, including three couples’ suites as well as a private VIP suite with its own entrance.
