This also includes locations outside of the UAE…

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has entered into a partnership with financial services and communications company Western Union to give its customers the option to recover their security deposits at any of the American company’s outlets.

This is good news for anyone who might be changing residence in the near future as a quick browse of the Western Union website reveals that the company has over 500 locations in Dubai alone.

Once a customer receives confirmation from DEWA that their deposit is ready for collection, they can visit any Western Union agent and the deposit will be available for collection within minutes.

Similarly, collection is also possible from any Western Union branch internationally, which should help make things easier for anyone relocating from Dubai. Whereas previously you would have to wait for the deposit to be transferred to your Dubai-based bank account before closing it, the process now offers far more flexibility.

The option for a bank transfer is, of course, still available, as is the option to have DEWA simply mail you a cheque for the refund amount. Existing DEWA customers can also opt to use the ‘Move To’ service which allows the direct transfer of current electricity and water accounts to a new location without the need to withdraw their deposit.
