Each week this Ramadan, we’ll shine the light on three must-try iftars happening across the city…

During Ramadan, “iftar” is the meal served at sunset to break the long day of fasting (the word literally means “break fast”). Friends and families often gather together for this meal, and many hotels and restaurants across Dubai put on a special feast for the occasion.

Even if you’re not fasting, anyone is welcome to come along and experience iftar. In fact, it’s a wonderful way to get into the spirit of the holy month.

Throughout Ramadan, we’ll be highlighting three iftars to try on a weekly basis. But if you’re hungry for more, you can check out our guide to 100 iftars in Dubai.

Here are three iftars to check out this weekend.

Dhs125: The Els Club

This Ramadan, you can enjoy an iftar buffet overlooking the lush greens at The Els Club’s 261 Restaurant in Sports City. The traditional buffet is well priced at Dhs125 per person (Dhs75 for children) including soft drinks, and there’s even a complimentary kid’s zone to keep the little ones entertained. Expect dishes such as Moutabel, Humus, Moroccan Lamb Tagine, Butter Chicken as well as salads, cold mezze and meats. There’s also a desert station which includes Baklava, Umali, Rasmalai, Dark Chocolate Mousse and more.

The Els Club, Dubai Sports City, daily sunset to 10.30pm, Dhs125. Tel: (04) 425 1000. Facebook.com/TheElsClubDubai

Dhs149: Habtoor Grand

One of the longest-serving and most popular Ramadan tents, the Habtoor Grand goes all out with its iftar offering. Kitted out with a red, carpet and grand white furniture, the spread is traditional, and expertly prepared to include all the iftar favourites, as well as dishes with Indian and international influences. It’s some of the best iftar food we’ve enjoyed this Ramadan, and is great value for Dhs149 including juices and hot drinks.

Dhs250: Armani Ballroom

There are few iftar addresses swankier than the Armani Hotel. Located inside the Armani ballroom, it’s on the lower ground floor of the Burj Khalifa. Seating is inside the ballroom, while you’ll take a trip to the entrance area to browse the buffet spread. The offering is vast and spans from salads and cold mezze to hot dishes, shawarma stations and the largest dessert offering we’ve ever seen (including a stunning gold macaroon tower). Armani Hotel is also worth heading to for Suhoor, as it’s home to a stunning Ramadan tent overlooking the Dubai Fountain serving a Suhoor offering and shisha for Dhs180 per person.

Armani Hotel Dubai, Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai, daily from sunset, Dhs250. Tel: (04) 888 3666. armanihoteldubai.com
