The RTA says they will help reduce the fleet’s carbon footprint by 2 per cent…

The RTA has announced it has ordered an additional 900 vehicles to be added to the Dubai Taxi fleet, 370 of which will be environmentally-friendly.

The new hybrid vehicles are fitted with dual fuel-electric power engines, and will be part of an order that includes Toyota Camrys, Lexus, Nissan Altimas and Hyundai Sonatas.

“The procurement of 370 hybrid vehicles is in implementation of the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to optimise the use of energy in the UAE given its importance for people and development of various projects.” said Mattar Al Tayer, director general of the RTA said in an official statement.

The RTA is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of its taxis by 2 per cent as required by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the Green Economy Drive.

Last month the RTA announced that all Dubai taxis will be fitted with CCTV cameras by 2019.
