All work outside to cease during the hottest part of the day for the next three months

Did you know that it’s illegal for people to work outside in the UAE for three months during the summer? At least during hottest part of the day, that is.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has issued a decree which states that anyone who works in direct sunlight will be obliged to take a break between 12.30pm until 3pm each day, reports The Khaleej Times.

This midday work ban will come into effect on Friday, June 15 and run until Saturday, September 15.

For anyone who this affects – such as labourers and other outdoor workers – working hours will be split into morning and evening shifts, totaling eight working hours over a 24-hour period.

If an employee’s shift runs over this time, they are required by law to be compensated. Companies that don’t respect the ban will be fined Dhs5,000 per worker to a maximum of Dhs50,000 in the case of multiple workers.

The Ministry of Human Resources has helpful hotline that you can contact if you have any questions on the above: (800) 66473.
