But only if you drive this type of car…

Dubai Festival City Mall has announced the installation of three electric car charging stations for its customers to use for free while they shop.

The new outlets are specifically designed for Tesla’s zero-emission electric vehicles, so too bad if you drive any other kind of electric car.

Located in the lower basement of the shopping complex’s Centrepoint parking, the charging points are able to juice up a Tesla for 100km of range to every hour they are plugged in to charge.

“The installation of these new charging points truly reflects Dubai Festival City Mall’s commitment to enhance its customer service and satisfaction by adding new innovations and sustainable solutions. This is also a part of the Mall and community’s effort to encourage our customers to better care for the environment collectively, as well as adding a new experience for shoppers at Dubai Festival City Mall.” said Steven Cleaver, director, Shopping Centres Dubai, Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate.

While the fact that the new charging stations only work with Tesla vehicles is a shame, it does echo an initiative put forward last year by DEWA and the RTA that encouraged motorists to make the switch to electric vehicles by offering free charging, parking and Salik until the end of 2019.
