The World Cup semi-finals, a new stand-up comedy night and a floating BBQ on Dubai Creek…
Welcome to a brand new week in Dubai, and with the World Cup hitting the business end of things, all eyes are on the game. Of course, for all the moments in between there’s still plenty to keep you occupied from creative art workshop and local singer-songwriters to a sundowner BBQ with a floating twist.
Here are eight things to do in Dubai this week.
Sunday July 8
1. Laugh it up at a new stand-up comedy night
Comedians At Work is a fresh new stand-up night where seasoned pros and comedy students from local funny house Dubomedy take to the stage to make you chuckle, guffaw and snort your evening away.
Warehouse Four, Al Quoz 1, Sun July 8, 8pm to 10pm, free. Tel: (050) 738 0158. warehousefour.com
2. Carve and print your own scarf
If you’re feeling creative this workshop will walk you through the process of carving and printing your own custom scarf using a lino stamp. Taking place at the popular Sum of Us cafe near the Trade Centre, dinner with a main course, dessert and a fresh juice included in the Dhs355 admission cost.
The Sum Of Us, 6 Street, Trade Centre 1, Sunday July 8, 7pm to 10pm, Dhs355. Tel: (056) 445 7526. sumofusdubai.com

3. Enroll in a pottery class for beginners
Yadewi Potteru Studio hosts regular classes for all levels of ability. You can sign up for a beginners class where you are introduced to the art of throwing clay on the wheel.
Yadawei Pottery School, Warehouse 30, Al Quoz 1, Mon 7pm to 9pm. Tel: (04) 379 1312. yadawei.net
4. Combine your love of painting with your love of wine
Here’s a novel concept: spend an evening trying to recreate the famous ‘Son of Man’ painting by Belgian master Magritte while you indulge in wine and assorted nibbles. This three-hour class should yield some interesting results, armed with a paint brush in one hand, a glass in the other and an appropriately jazzy soundtrack.
InterContinental Dubai Marina, Dubai Marina, Monday July 9, 7.30pm to 10.30pm, Dhs369 (+5% VAT). weloveart.ae
