Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has ordered the release of 547 prisoners in Dubai ahead of Eid Al Adha.

This comes after UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced the pardoning of 704 prisoners in Abu Dhabi.

Attorney General of Dubai His Excellency Essam Issa Al Humaidan said His Highness’s decision to pardon inmates is aimed at offering them a fresh start in life and easing their families’ suffering, as well as helping the prisoners reintegrate into the community.

Al Humaidan said this gesture will have a positive impact on the community by giving the prisoners a chance to ‘rejoin their families and start a new chapter in their lives’.

Dubai Public Prosecution has commenced the legal procedures for implementing Sheikh Mohammed’s order, which is being carried out in collaboration with Dubai Police, the Attorney General added.

The prisoners represent a wide cross-section of nationalities and a broad range of UAE society. Those pardoned will all be considered people who are safe to the community and more than ready to be back on the UAE’s streets.
