2018 in music: All the artists set to perform in the UAE

From pop icons to indie rockers, here are all the music megastars coming to Dubai and Abu Dhabi this year…

After an epic kick off to the year with stars including Jason Derulo, Rita Ora, Backstreet Boys and Stereophonics all performing in Dubai, and Fifth Harmony (RIP) and Dua Lipa in Abu Dhabi, we’re looking ahead to a new season.

And the second half of 2018 is already shaping up to host some top acts. So, we’ve rounded up all the stars with confirmed gigs coming up. Mark these dates in your diary!

Dubai

October 18:  Vengaboys

Eurodance group Vengaboys will take to the stage at beach club Zero Gravity on October 18. The iconic party act rose to fame in the late 1990s thanks to a string of irresistibly catchy hits including Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom and We’re Going To Ibiza.

October 19: A$AP Ferg

American rapper A$AP Ferg is heading to d3 superclub BASE Dubai on October 19 as part of their new season line-up. The Plain Jane rapper has become the face of Harlem hip hop after shooting to fame with his debut solo album, Trap Lord, in 2013.

October 25: Toploader

Indie rock band Toploader are coming to Dubai’s The Irish Village for a one-off concert on October 25 as part of the venue’s 22nd birthday celebrations. Famous for their hit Dancing in the Moonlight, the band, now a three-piece, will take to the stage for the free gig from 9.30pm.

October 25: David Guetta

DJ heavyweight David Guetta is set to perform a huge gig at BASE Dubai on October 25. The legendary producer has worked with huge stars including Nicki Minaj, Sia, Justin Bieber and Usher, producing nine albums and selling more than 30 million records worldwide. There will be free entry and free drinks for ladies until midnight, while guys will pay a cover charge of Dhs300.

October 25 & 26: Nicky Romero and Sam Feldt

A three-day mega beach festival is returning to Barasti Beach this month. Taking place from Thursday October, 25 to Saturday October, 27 the free entry Sunset Festival will see two top house DJs fly in to perform. Show Me Love hitmaker Sam Feldt will headline on Thursday night, while on Friday, Nicky Romero will take up deck duty.

October 26: Nick Jonas

Pop singer Nick Jonas was supposed to headline last year’s Fiesta De Los Muertos music festival, but cancelled due to an unforeseen change in his schedule. But the Jealous singer is set to make up for it this year, taking to the stage at Autism Rocks Arena on October 26. He’ll be joined by Cuban reggaeton group Gente De Zona, American DJ Chantal Jeffries, The Mariachis, and Dubai-based DJ duo Hollaphonic.

November 2: Imelda May

Irish star Imelda May is one of several artists performing at Dubai Opera this year, alongside shows such as Swan Lake, Ghost The Musical and Jingle Bell Favourites. Over the last 10 years, the Irish singer-songwriter has recorded and performed with stars including Tom Jones, U2, Meat Loaf, Jamie Cullum and Kodaline, as well as releasing five studio albums.

November 16: Scooter and Eiffel 65

German techno band Scooter and Italian dance group Eiffel 65 will headline the DXB 9020 music festival at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium on Friday, November 16. Taking place from 8pm to 2am, Eiffel 65 will kick things off at 9.30pm. The trio is best known for their smash hit Blue (Da Ba Dee). Scooter will take to the stage at 10.30pm, with frontman H.P. Baxxter set to perform party anthems like The Logical Song, Jumping All Over The World, and How Much Is The Fish?

November 29-30: EDM stars

A massive mash-up festival of Chinese culture and EDM music is set to land at Dubai’s Meydan Hotel this November. Brought to you by Envie Events (who put on other big EDM festivals such as Unite with Tomorrowland and Sensation), Bao Festival will bring more than a dozen EDM artists to the region, including DJ Mag top 100 heavyweights Martin Garrix and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

Abu Dhabi

November 22: Post Malone

American rapper Post Malone will open the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after race concerts on November 22. A relative newcomer to the rap scene, Post Malone began his career in 2015 with the release of his debut single White Iverson. The song’s popularity on YouTube saw Malone secure a recording contract with Republic Records, where he went on to work with stars including 50 Cent and Kanye West.

November 23: The Weeknd

The Weeknd is set to perform on Friday November 23 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after race concerts. This will be only the second time the R&B superstar has been to the UAE, after first performing in Dubai in 2014. Although he began releasing music in 2010, it wasn’t until 2014 that The Weeknd achieved international fame, working with artists including Ariana Grande and Drake. He’s since had eight Billboard Top 10 hits including ‘The Hills’, ‘Earned It’ and ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ as well as the certified platinum, Starboy.

November 24: Sam Smith

Brit singer songwriter Sam Smith is the third artist performing at the Yasalam after-race concert this year. Set to perform on Saturday November 24, the pop megastar will be bringing soulful sound and heartfelt hits to Abu Dhabi for the first time. First rising to fame as the vocalist on Disclosure’s Latch in 2012, Sam Smith went on to see his 2014 debut album, In The Lonely Hour win him four Grammys and five top ten singles in the UK charts.

November 25: Guns N Roses

They’ve sold more than 100 million records worldwide and are currently ranked the 41st greatest artist of all time, and now Guns N Roses are one of four acts to perform at the Yasalam after-race concerts this year. Most famous for their hits Sweet Child O Mine, November Rain and Patience, Guns N Roses were last in the region in March 2017, making their Dubai debut at the Autism Rocks Arena. Rock music lovers in Abu Dhabi can expect to see original members Axl, Slash, and Duff take to the stage for the performance.
