Try something new: 15 fun new things to do in Dubai


From long-awaited openings to fresh dining spots, deals, and places to party, we bring you our monthly round-up of new things to do in Dubai.

1. Check out a new Dubai neighbourhood

Found at the tip of the Palm Jumeirah, facing Atlantis, The Palm, The Pointe is a new destination by master developer Nakheel, promising 1.4 million square feet of shopping dining and leisure activities. A cinema, gym, childrens play area and a handful of restaurants and shops are already open, with around 70 venues expected to be operating when the destination is complete.

2. Check in for a staycation at a brand new hotel

Located on the West Crescent of the Palm Jumeirah, the 100,000 square metre Emerald Palace Kempinski Dubai has just opened its doors. Inside the swanky hotel, you’ll find 391 rooms and suites, eight restaurants and bars, a Cinq Mondes Spa, 500m private white sand beach, 80-seat private cinema and the city’s largest indoor pool.

3. Shop for some unique gifts at a festive market

The tree lighting ceremony at Habtoor Palace will kickstart the popular winter market on December 4. There will be entertainment and themed activities for everyone to enjoy, including a selection of retail and food stalls, children’s activities and attractions, and even an appearance from Santa himself, with the giant decorated Christmas tree, situated right outside the hotel, the star of the show.

4. Smell the roses at Dubai Miracle Garden

Another of the city’s top winter attractions, Dubai Miracle Garden, has just opened for its seventh season. The unique outdoor destination, which contains around 100 million blooms, has a new theme every year – this year it’s a reimagined Disney Avenue, where the record-breaking Mickey Mouse sculpture from last year will be joined by some friends. Other new features include a floral castle which houses a garden dining experience, a new amphitheatre for putting on shows, as well as life-sized floral elephants that will spray water from their trunks.

5. Tuck in at a new restaurant by a celebrity chef

Gordon Ramsay fans, get excited. You can now dine at the Dubai outpost of his famous Hell’s Kitchen restaurant, which has opened its doors at Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai. The new restaurant promises “the same combination of show-stopping theatre and world-class cooking as its original Las Vegas location” and is open daily from 7am to 10.30am, for lunch from midday until 3.30pm, and for dinner from 6pm until 10.30pm.

6. Make the most of a new ladies’ and gents day

Soho Beach is Meydan’s lesser-known party spots, but that’s all about to change with their new Tuesday ladies’ day. Every Tuesday, Made In Soho will run from midday until 5pm, offering free flowing food and drink for Dhs145 for ladies. Best of all, this ladies’ day also comes with a package for guys, who can avail the exact same offer for Dhs245.

7. And a fabulous new ladies’ night

This al fresco urban jungle in DIFC has a great new ladies’ night every Wednesday. It’s got a lively vibe with a great choice of botanical cocktails, herb infused drinks and a floral inspired sharing menu. For their ‘Bloom’ ladies night, ladies can take advantage of four free selected beverages from 8pm to 12am from a choice of house wine, bubbly and a weekly changing cocktail.

8. See a legendary Las Vegas show

Legendary Las Vegas rockstars Tenors of Rock have been announced as the first act to grace the stage at Caesars Palace.The four-piece rock band will grace the stage at the Rotunda, a new concert and events space adjacent to Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai from December 6, with the 90-minute show running throughout December.

9. Head along to the new-look Ripe Market

The always popular outdoor Ripe Market is back in action, and has a brand new location to boot. You can now find it at Dubai Police Academy Park in Umm Suqeim. The market takes place every Friday and Saturday from 9am to 7pm, and features a farmers market and food trucks, plus arts, crafts and workshops, as well as yoga, live music and heaps of other activities.

10. Take a trip to Dubai’s Love Lakes

Dubai has a new attraction that’s already at the top of our must-visit list. Found in Al Qudra, there are two man-made lakes which have been shaped into two interlocking hearts. The Love Lake is a short distance from the Last Lake of Al Qudra, and if it wasn’t romance-inducing enough in the shape of a heart, ‘Love’ has also been spelled out in trees next to it.

11. Join a new foodie club

Dedicated Dubai foodies will already know about Frying Pan Adventures, the company that offers excellent food tours of Old Dubai. And now the team has launched a new community programme called “Sufra”, featuring a nine-month menu of limited edition food and culture experiences. Unlike the normal guided tours, these experiences will have more of a community focus. There will be Friday morning breakfasts, road trips beyond Dubai, visits to lesser-known neighbourhoods, interactive cooking demonstrations and more. Check out the full programme here.

12. Book a table at a brand new sunset brunch

Fancy a side of canalside sunset views with your brunch? Then book a table at sleek Lebanese export Seven Sisters, who have launched a new sunset Friday brunch, perfect for those that like a weekend lie-in. From 3pm to 7pm every Friday, guests can enjoy free-flowing beverages alongside commercial R&B and chart hits by DJs SkinnyLoop and Devin Kosoko as the sun sets on the Seven Sisters terrace.

13. Sip on sundowners at a new rooftop bar

While Port Rashid might not be on your radar for a great sundowner spot, you might want to think again with the arrival of Estrellas. Found in the recently rebranded The Canvas Hotel Dubai MGallery by Sofitel, this modern new rooftop bar comes complete with a central pool and some incredible views across Dubai. This stylish open air terrace, found on the hotels eighth floor, will serve as a pool bar by day and a stunning lounge by night, perfect for those looking for a new sundowner spot.

14. Create your own scoop at the Magnum store

Ice cream fans can now create their very own scoop with the launch of the first ever Magnum store in the UAE. Located at the front of VOX cinemas in Mall of the Emirates, the new permanent store is kitted out in Magnum’s signature gold and brown colours, complete with a ‘dipping bar’. The dipping bar, which has become an icon across pop-up Magnum stores around the globe, allows guests to create their own personalised magnum with a choice of ice cream, chocolate coating and up to 18 premium toppings.

15. Have a cuppa at a hip new cafe

Healthy foodies will love Urth Caffe, the brand new cafe at City Walk. The Los Angeles export, which also has venues in Saudi Arabia and Japan, is considered one of the top organic heirloom coffee roasters in the US. The brand uses all-natural ingredients across its lines of chemical-free coffees and teas. Expect plenty of health-conscious yet tasty creations, such as matcha pancakes, wild mushroom pizza baked in the in-house wood-fire pizza oven, and even vegan chocolate cake. As well as the delicious-looking heirloom coffees, we also spied some bubble tea on the menu (yum)…
