With less than two years to go, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president of the UAE and ruler of Dubai has paid a visit to the Expo 2020 site, to check on preparations for the forthcoming international exhibition.

The Dubai Ruler shared a key message from his visit, stressing the importance of ensuring young people are at the heart of the landmark event, both in various stages of preparation for hosting, and during the event.

“The event is one of the largest global gatherings that bring together the world’s greatest minds to discuss how we can shape the future”, said Sheikh Mohammed.

“The youth should play a key part in this mega event and get opportunities to observe, learn and contribute creative ideas so that they can develop innovative solutions for creating a better future for our region and the world.”

“Sheikh Zayed directed us that youth should be supported and motivated to participate in the process of nation building. Today, the youth represent a top priority for the UAE. This approach has enabled us to achieve a leading status among the developed nations of the world and made us a frontrunner in shaping the future,” Sheikh Mohammed added.

Joined by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai as well as other officials, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed on the rapid progress of the Expo 2020 project and key initiatives, including the Expo School Programme, which was launched in 2016 to create programs and resources to enable school students to engage with Expo 2020 and its global vision.

The Dubai Ruler was also given updates on the progress made by the Expo 2020 real estate and development team, with construction well placed to be completed well before the event opening in 2020.

When Expo 2020 lands in Dubai on October 20, 2020, it will be the first Expo in the Middle East region in the events 167-year history.
