The UAE football team are through to the semi-final of the AFC Asian Cup.

The host team beat current title holders Australia in a surprise 1-0 victory on Friday January 25, and will now face Qatar as they play for a place in the final. The semi-final match will take place at 6pm on Tuesday January 29 at the Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Japan will face Iran in the other semi-final match, which is scheduled for 6pm on Monday January 28, with the winning team making it through to the final on Friday February 1 at 6pm.

It is the second time the UAE has hosted the AFC Asian Cup, having last hosted the tournament in 1996. This year the football tournament, which takes place every four year, saw 24 team participate for the first time. Previously, only 16 teams have taken part.

The UAE football team, managed by Alberto Zaccheroni, finished third in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, and were runners up when they last hosted the tournament in 1996.
