This is a great initiative…

We’re all looking for small ways to reduce our plastic use in day-to-day life, from taking shopping bags to the supermarket, to using paper straws. And now Costa Coffee has made it easier to make a difference, launching a new initiative to encourage customers to bring their own, reusable cup.

Every time you bring a reusable cup or flask to Costa Coffee, you’ll get Dhs2 off your purchase. Wallet and environmentally friendly? We’re in.

Costa Coffee hopes to reduce the volume of paper wasted by using disposable cups, encouraging as many coffee-lovers as they can to use a reusable cup when heading for their morning, or afternoon, caffiene fix.

Customers can get Dhs2 off any coffee drink at all Costa Coffee city stores in the UAE and it’s valid on everything from traditional lattes and cappuccinos to Iced drinks, such as Cold Brew or iced coffee.

While two dirhams might not seem like a lot, it works out at a Dhs14 per week saving if you’re used to getting a daily coffee, and an impressive annual saving of Dhs730.

The initiative comes in line with the UAE Vision 2021 around sustainability. Launched in 2010 by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, UAE Vision 2021 aims to make the UAE among the best countries in the world by the 50-year anniversary of the union.

Of the six national priorities, one is ‘Sustainable Environment and Infrastructure’. With this, the UAE Government wants to ensure sustainable development while preserving the environment.
