The Dubai Metro Red Line extension has now reached 70 per cent completion according to Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA).

80 per cent of the rail track work is now finished, while the station works of the project are between 50 and 60 per cent complete, the RTA said in a statement.

The line extends 15 km from Nakheel Harbour & Tower Station to Expo Station, one of the projects key stations. It is split between 11.8km of elevated track, and 3.2km underground.

Expo Station will be the closest metro station to the Expo 2020 site, and has a capacity for 522 thousand passengers per day in both directions. The station will handle millions of visitors during the six-month Expo 2020.

The multi-level structure of the station comprises a ground floor, mezzanine, concourse, and a train platform level. It will serve Expo 2020 site and the surroundings as it extends from Expo Village and Expo Mall to the West, and to Expo Yard towards the East.

During a progress review RTA chairman, HE Mattar Al Tayer also checked the progress of Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station, which will serve as a transfer station between Dubai Metro Red Line and Route 2020. The station is already 50 per cent complete, with work ongoing on the roof cladding. According to the RTA, preparations are underway for the installation of the footbridge linking the station with the parking area.

All rail works of Route 2020 are scheduled for completion by May 2019 and the RTA will start the test-run of the new metro line in February 2020.
